“I felt guilty for feeling happy in the beginning. When good things would happen, I’d feel like I’m not allowed to be happy… Or I’d feel guilty that I got to experience some amazing things when [she] couldn’t. So I had a hard time accepting the good things that are happening in my life because [she] couldn’t do that.”

In this episode, college sophomore Jilly Schimer, recalls finding out that her best friend had taken her own life just hours after Jilly had brought her home from a party.

Jilly talks about what it was like to start her freshman year in college just weeks later. She explores the struggles she had, and continues to have, with guilt and how she has worked to integrate this incredible loss into her life. She emphasizes the power of sharing her story with friends and professionals and talks about ways she is making sure to take care of her own mental health.
