The Mourning Meeting: Season 4, Episode 4

Eating Disorders and Grief

Today, we are going to talk about eating disorders and grief, and how they relate to another. We talk about how eating disorders can bring on feelings of grief, related to our own sense of identity. We also explore how grief can create changes in appetite that can be the beginning of disordered eating. Often, grievers feel some lack of control, and controlling food intake may be one way to gain a sense of that back. In extreme cases, this control can turn in to severe restrictions of food intake.
