Jacelyn Matthews, MA, EdM, talks about her first personal awareness of racial discrimination, which happened to occur in her freshman English class in college. She reflects on how that experience was a loss of innocence and a loss of her own voice. In fact, it was also a loss of college itself as she ended up transferring when she realized that she was not going to be heard in that environment.  We talk about her becoming more aware of the injustices that occur regularly and what both white people and people of color can do when they experience or witness racism.
